MEDITATION: Thinking of You – ‘An Ambassador’

2 Corinthians 5:20-21: Ambassadors For Christ: So, You are an ambassador? An ambassador indeed, simply because of what God Almighty, through Jesus Christ has done. For God has made Jesus to be sin for you and me. He never knew sin, never committed any sin. He was even bold enough to face his accusers and ask them; Which one of them could really convince him that he had committed any sin?No one was able, yet he was falsely arrested, accused, tried, beaten, mocked and crucified. Within the space of less than 24 hours all these treatments were given to him. He suffered injustice and the mockery of an illegal trial, which condemned him to die as though he were the worst offender. He died alongside condemned, hardened criminals. He was sensitive enough to hear the inward heart-cry of one of the thieves dying beside him! Because that theif repented at the last passing moments of his life Jesus forgave him. Though the thief was not pardoned by the laws of the land, he obtained the full pardon of heaven, through Jesus Christ. Jesus had on his mind and spirit the souls of everyone born and ever yet to be born into this world in all lands and throughout  all generations! Jesus thought about you and me in particular. Jesus Who knew no sin, was made sin. That meant He tasted death for every human being. The Bible declares that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord(Romans 6:23). Jesus paid the price that sin demanded with his life blood shed on the cross. The life of a person is contained in his blood. When blood flows through our hearts and blood vessels that is an indication of life still existing. When blood is shed, the life goes with it and the person dies. Jesus therefore gave his life as a ransom paid to rescue every human individual from spiritual and eternal death. The Bible declares: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all(Isaiah 53:5-6). Jesus died for our sins on the cross, he was buried in a donated tomb, not borrowed. He rose up from the grave on the third day, just as the Holy Scriptures foretold. God does not condemn any person for his /her sins. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that through him the world might be saved(John 3:17). The good news is this: That God offers full pardon to all, because of what Christ did on the cross and rose again. God is no more angry at you, because He had visited His full anger through judgment upon Jesus Christ, His Son, who surrendered to become our substitute; our sin-bearer and our ransom. As a result of the pleasing sacrifice made  by Jesus during which he fulfilled the standard of the law of God by his death on the cross, we are declared not guilty by God, basically. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Every person ought to claim the priviledged benefit of the sacrificial, substitutionary death of Jesus. God gave his approval by raising Jesus from the grave on the third day.  The word of God declares that if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess him as Lord with your mouth, you shall be saved.  For with the heart a person believes, fully trusting in and relying on Christ and so is justified and made acceptable to GOD. With the mouth, the person confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord and he is saved. Through Jesus Christ, peace was made with Almighty God by his blood which he volunteered to be shed on the cross. The whole of the human race has  eversince been reconciled to God. Everybody ought to hear and know this good news personally. The blood of Jesus so shed, has present and everlasting power to wash each trusting person from sin. Each trusting or believing person is given power to live to please God. His or her past has been forgiven, he or she has been given power to become a child of God. A new life has begun. The power of God is given not on merit or because a person has done particularly well. It is by virtue of the mercy of God. It is called grace. By the influence of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul wrote: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them(Ephesisns 2:8-10).  Each believing Christian is a workmanship of God; that is, the handiwork of God. Each one as such is created in Christ Jesus. It is a brand new creation. We were former antagonists of God because we shifted our allegiance from Him to Satan. Through Christ, however, we became transformed. Henceforth, our lives are being enabled to please God. It is written:Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;behold, all things are become new(2 Corinthians 5:17).  Having become beneficiaries of the peace made with God and become reconclied to him, every believing Christian is sent to take and share this good news with any person who would listen. Every Christian is a representative of Christ equiped with the word and message of reconciliation. TELL, URGE, INVITE people everywhere to come to experience the same reconciliation we have experienced. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). An ambassador goes out with delegated authority. He / she goes out with words of commission- THE MARCHING ORDERS. He has been thoroughly briefed-his FEET SHOD WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE.He also has Divine cover and protection.GOD is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble. Therefore we shall not fear, because GOD is with us. We go taking the whole armour of God with us. This is not carnal or physical armour, but the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said: And Lo, I am with you alway, unto the ends of the world (Matthew 28:20)! The power and might of the Kingdom of Heaven is behind us and gone ahead of us.       Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ stead, be ye reconciled to God(2 Corinthians 5:20). Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!

Thinking With You: Jesus Said ”I AM”

Our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ made many claims which make him very outstanding in all of human history. He is either not who he claims to be, or if his claims are true, then he must be truly the Son of God and therefore himself God. Let us examine some of his great statements about himself. These claims brought Jesus into conflict with the Jewish authorities of his days, who saw him as a threat to their status and teachings. He said: 1.I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14: 6 . 2. I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture John 10: 7-9. 3. I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep John 10:11 . 4. I am the living bread which came down from heaven  John 6:51 . 5. I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst John 6: 35 . 6. I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life John 8:12 . 7. ‘Before Abraham was, I am’ John 8:58.  8. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me though he dies yet he shall live. And he who lives and believes in me shall never die John 11: 25-26 . Is it possible for a person to embark on a journey without knowing where he or she is going, the fares, the route and the best means of transportation to the destination? Sadly, this is true of many people in our world today. The journey after dying is not known by many, though secretly in many minds it is of great concern! Where do we go after death? Jesus Christ offers solution to the nagging issue when he said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life…..’ He also said he is the resurrection and the life. There are doors and the door. Jesus is not a door or one of many available doors to real life. He is the Door; the true and only door to God; the only access to a fully satisfying life. The symbolism of way, truth, life, bread, door cover every aspect of the human need. Without the way, there is no going or move. Without the truth, there is no knowing, or understanding. Without the essence of life, there is no living and life becomes meaningless and hopelessly dull! Without the bread, there is no feeding, thus putting survival and existence at risk.Without the door there is no access, thus stagnating or stopping all fruitful human endeavours. Without the light, there is no vision or sight, thus people would grope about in darkness, not knowing where to go. Jesus gives purpose and direction to human life. Without the good shepherd, there is no protection and security. Jesus Christ gives perfect insurance as well as assurance! Name any genuine human need and I can tell you that Jesus Christ provides adequately and abundantly. As the living bread which came down from heaven, Jesus Christ gives everlasting life. He has secured full and free pardon from God in respect of our sins. Because of Jesus giving his life for us, our sins have been put under. We have been forgiven. God has opened before us a new chapter and new lease of life. There is overwhelming proofs of transformed lives across centuries and continents; and above concepts, consciences and civilizations!  JESUS loves you, my friend. Won’t you ask him into your life as the Shepherd, Way, Truth, Life, Bread, Door and Light? And if you have already surrendered your life to Jesus, remember all these aspects of who Jesus is, what he is and what he is able to do for you and through you for others. God bless you.

DAILY MEDITATION: ‘Thinking with you’

1 John 5:13-15 – ”I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us- whatever we ask- we know that we have what we asked of him”.This is written so that we may know; written so that we may be sure; written so that we may have no iota of doubt in our minds. God has forgiven us  and has canceled our sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. God has done for us the greatest; He has given us Eternal life. Can he ever deny us the relatively smaller things of life? Certainly not. When we need to ask something from God, it is always good to know his mind before asking him. We know God’s mind from his written will, the Bible; the Old and the New Wills called TESTAMENTS! When we ask God in accordance with his will he must answer us if our minds are right with him; that is if we trust him to do as he has promised. God shows great respect for his written as well as spoken words. The written words are in the Bible and he sometimes gives out the spoken words through his servants , the prophets. The days of the prophets are not yet over, my friend.  God said:” ….. I am the LORD that healeth thee”(Exodus 15:26). God made this promised to the Israelites based upon their obedience, promising to heal them and above all, keep them well. The prophet Isaiah, prophesying about the Messiah, Jesus Christ said: ”But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53: 5) NIV.  When Jesus came , he did all that Isaiah prophesied. Reflecting on that, the Apostle Peter said:”He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wound you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). From these portions of the Bible as well as an overwhelming references backed up by proofs of personal, individual experiences, we are very sure God has made provision for our healing as well as our health. This is one of many aspects of life that the good LORD has made provision for. The salvation secured for us by Jesus Christ is a comprehensive one which touches our lives, bodily, socially, intellectually, morally and spiritually; our homes totally domestically, our pockets financially, our jobs or vocations professionally and even the totality of all we do and are. When we pray to God according to his will or ask from him some help, direction or blessing, we have the assurance that we are given what we have asked for. God would never go back or fail concerning his promises over our lives. What God says he would do he must surely do. We must ask him trusting that he would never fail us.

DAILY MEDITATION: ‘Thinking with You’

Romans13:12.The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. We sleep during the night. During the day we wake up to go about our daily work or schedule. Jesus once said: ”As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work” (John 9:4). Day is likened to light while night is likened to darkness. During the period of darkness it is easier to carry out some activities without being noticed, but not so daytime. Some people spend the night hours to carry out shameful and wicked deeds.
Night and day are also used to depict eras, periods of years or ages in human history. While night is of  the present or the past, day is futuristic. Deeds of darkness are bad or cruel acts- acts of inhumanity to fellow human beings. Putting aside deeds of darkness is equal to a change of attitudes, thoughts, habits and direction – it is making a U-turn back to God. When light shows up, darkness flees. The early Christians lived in eagerness of the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ. The return of Christ was expected to take place during their life time and as such they lived morally, decently, lovingly, purely,  patriotically, obediently, serving the LORD and in humility, serving one another.  Putting on the armour of light, therefore means to put on Christ. It means to put on the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. If these men and women did so during their days, then it is more compelling on us, Christians of the 21st Century. The end of the world has definitely come upon us, as Biblical prophecies are being daily and increasingly fulfilled before our very eyes! Armour is a metal suit worn by soldiers to protect them from missiles or weapons of the enemies during wars. The armour of light for today’s battles are truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace , faith, salvation and the word of God; true love being the overriding force. ”The night is nearly over;  the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light”. Grace be with you.

DAILY MEDITATION ‘Thinking with You’

If my people — will — I will:-II Chronicles 7: 13-14 This is a very familiar portion of scripture, often quoted by many Christians, but not so much liked these days. King Solomon had just offered a great sacrifice and made a petition to the Almighty God on the occasion of the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem. God was very pleased with Solomon and he replied him positively as well as conditionally. Fire came down from heaven, consuming the burnt offering and sacrifices and the glory of the LORD filled the house, signifying God’s approval. So much was the glory of God that the priests could not enter the house of the LORD. In jubilation, Solomon made further sacrifices unto the LORD. Then the LORD appeared to Solomon and spoke the very familiar words: ” If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” Three-fold action is expected. Humility; earnestness in prayer; a U -turn to God, indicating repentance, are expected from the people. From God, the response would be to hear the prayer; to forgive his people; and to heal their land. God’s people today need to take an earnest, bold stand for him and follow the same age-old step of humility, repentance, seeking God, calling upon him that he may hear us, forgive us and heal our lands all around the world. No nation or individual is exempted. God is eager to do his part if we are not arrogant or resistant to change by God. His healing and renewal are very much in need today; even more than the old days.  God cannot and should not be taken for granted; his grace must not be taken as weakness or sluggishness. His promises never fail. His arms are never too short to deliver. His power are ever ready to help us at this challenging time of need! We need a solemn assembly.

DAILY MEDITATION : ‘Thinking with You’

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 Before I knew the LORD, I was filled with fear. Fear of the unknown; fear of the future; fear of the dark places; fear of loneliness; fear of death and all other forms of fear gave me no peace. Since the LORD, in his mercies made himself known to me, my life became a new and different story of love, peace, joy and hope. The Psalmist testifies from his life experiences. He was exposed to rejection, oppression, attack, and rebellion. He knew what fear is, but he also knew and experienced the deliverance of the LORD, because he had learnt how to trust in the LORD. Therefore like David we, from a position of trust, can also testify. The LORD is my light, my salvation and the strength of my life. Darkness and the power thereof cannot make me afraid because I have the light of God in me and around me. Where light exists it is always dominant, and darkness is subdued. Light always shines in the dark and dispels any darkness around. This darkness is more than the physical darkness. Satan and his agents are of spiritual darkness. The wicked, mischievous, deceptive, oppressive, racist, violent, rapist, terrorist, arrogant, and all other immoral, people are of spiritual darkness. They cannot put me or you under or overcome us, because we trust the Lord, who is the defence, security, refuge and indeed the strength of our lives. I am not afraid of anyone. The LORD is with me with all of his power. These words are light and as we take them in, what great light is established in us!

DAILY MEDITATION: ‘Thinking with you’

The LORD is my shepherd I shall not want.Psalm 23:1 That is to say, I trust the LORD as my good and reliable Guide. He is my Provider, my Counsellor, who takes good care of me. I shall not lack that which is good. All my needs shall be met. I shall have my food supplied; eating and drinking to my satisfaction. My clothing, shelter, protection and security are guaranteed. As I seek his guidance, get understanding and become wiser to order my life in the right direction. I am part of a great multitude of people under the care of the Almighty, yet I particularly trust him in my own peculiar situation, as part of the flock of people he looks after. God knows my name and he knows my peculiar situation. I am going to be personally closer to him than before. I am going to open my heart to him and tell him how I feel and ask him what I need. I am confident that he will provide all I need. He will give me power to remain right, clean, focused and positively creative. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
