Thinking With You: Jesus Said ”I AM”

Our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ made many claims which make him very outstanding in all of human history. He is either not who he claims to be, or if his claims are true, then he must be truly the Son of God and therefore himself God. Let us examine some of his great statements about himself. These claims brought Jesus into conflict with the Jewish authorities of his days, who saw him as a threat to their status and teachings. He said: 1.I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14: 6 . 2. I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture John 10: 7-9. 3. I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep John 10:11 . 4. I am the living bread which came down from heaven  John 6:51 . 5. I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst John 6: 35 . 6. I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life John 8:12 . 7. ‘Before Abraham was, I am’ John 8:58.  8. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me though he dies yet he shall live. And he who lives and believes in me shall never die John 11: 25-26 . Is it possible for a person to embark on a journey without knowing where he or she is going, the fares, the route and the best means of transportation to the destination? Sadly, this is true of many people in our world today. The journey after dying is not known by many, though secretly in many minds it is of great concern! Where do we go after death? Jesus Christ offers solution to the nagging issue when he said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life…..’ He also said he is the resurrection and the life. There are doors and the door. Jesus is not a door or one of many available doors to real life. He is the Door; the true and only door to God; the only access to a fully satisfying life. The symbolism of way, truth, life, bread, door cover every aspect of the human need. Without the way, there is no going or move. Without the truth, there is no knowing, or understanding. Without the essence of life, there is no living and life becomes meaningless and hopelessly dull! Without the bread, there is no feeding, thus putting survival and existence at risk.Without the door there is no access, thus stagnating or stopping all fruitful human endeavours. Without the light, there is no vision or sight, thus people would grope about in darkness, not knowing where to go. Jesus gives purpose and direction to human life. Without the good shepherd, there is no protection and security. Jesus Christ gives perfect insurance as well as assurance! Name any genuine human need and I can tell you that Jesus Christ provides adequately and abundantly. As the living bread which came down from heaven, Jesus Christ gives everlasting life. He has secured full and free pardon from God in respect of our sins. Because of Jesus giving his life for us, our sins have been put under. We have been forgiven. God has opened before us a new chapter and new lease of life. There is overwhelming proofs of transformed lives across centuries and continents; and above concepts, consciences and civilizations!  JESUS loves you, my friend. Won’t you ask him into your life as the Shepherd, Way, Truth, Life, Bread, Door and Light? And if you have already surrendered your life to Jesus, remember all these aspects of who Jesus is, what he is and what he is able to do for you and through you for others. God bless you.
